What Are the Caverns?
History
The caverns have a rich history dating back to the early 1400s when the Seneca Indians used them for shelter, storage, and ceremonial purposes. In 1742, German settler Laven Teter rediscovered the cave while searching for water for his livestock. The Teter family maintained ownership until 1928, after which the caverns were opened to the public in 1928 as a show cave. Over the years, the caverns have attracted countless visitors eager to experience their natural beauty and historical significance.
